Privacy Policy
The sponsoring organizations—the American Academy of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and the Society of Actuaries (hereinafter referred to, collectively, as “we” or “us” or “the Sponsoring Organizations”)—know that you care how your information is used and shared. We appreciate your trust that we will use your information carefully and sensibly. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes our policy with respect to information that we collect through the website at ClimateRiskHub.org or ActuariesClimateIndex.org (“Website”) and related matters. Our Terms of Use (“Terms”), which are incorporated into this Policy by this reference, further describes the Terms governing your use of this Website.
You consent to the data collection, use, disclosure, and storage practices described in this Policy when you access the content on this Website or use any of the services provided on it.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE IT
The information we collect generally falls into two categories: (1) personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide to us (“PII”), and (2) tracking information collected as you navigate through the Website (“Non-PII”).
PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
PII is information that identifies you. Among other items, we may collect your name, title, employer name, and email address. We collect this information only when you choose to provide it to us. For example, we may collect and store your PII if you decide to sign up to receive emails about the regular updates to this Website. We use this information to process your request.
NON-PERSONAL INFORMATION
Non-PII is information that our technology collects, without identifying you. When you use the Website, we may collect tracking information such as your browser type, the type of operating system you use, the domain name of your Internet service provider, and pages visited on the Website. We collect this information for aggregate reporting on Website activity and for identifying possible sources of Website abuse. For example, we may want to know how long the average user spends on the Website or which pages or features get the most attention.
SHARING OF INFORMATION
The Sponsoring Organizations do not share, sell, license, or swap your PII or non-PII with third parties without your permission, other than with any third-party service provider(s) retained by the Sponsoring Organizations to maintain, manage, or update the Website. The Sponsoring Organizations provide such service providers only with the information they need to provide their services and prohibit them from sharing, reselling, or using data for their own marketing purposes. The Sponsoring Organizations will not share your personal data with advertisers without your permission. We may disclose PII or non-PII when required by law, wherein we have a good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a criminal investigation, a court order, or legal process. We may also share your PII if we believe it is necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of the terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
