(Released on May 17, 2023)
The Actuaries Climate Index (ACI) has been updated with data through November 2022. The ACI provides objective measures of specific and aggregate changes in climate extremes and sea level across Canada and the U.S. and is based on an analysis of seasonal data from neutral, scientific sources for six index components collected since 1961.
This update includes new data for the fall of 2022, as well as small retrospective adjustments to the data for summer of 2022. Small adjustments to recent data are a normal feature of the raw data that feeds into the ACI. As a result of the retrospective adjustments, the five-year ACI average for summer 2022 shifted from 1.19 to 1.16. The new data for fall of 2022 did not impact the value of the five-year average, leaving it unchanged at 1.16.
With this update, the maps and graphs on the website have been revised, as well as the ACI data that is available for download. The Data Disclosure webpage summarizes important information about the data, and the Guided Tour webpage describes how to interpret the graphs and maps.
